This adorable Folkmanis baby chimpanzee is a huggable puppet that can be any child's best friend. With a movable mouth and a sweet expression, he is good company at playtime, at naptime or on the road as a travel buddy.
Chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) live in the rainforests and savannah woodlands of western and central Africa, dividing their day between the forest floor and the canopy. A community runs from twenty to well over a hundred animals, which split each morning into small, shifting parties and gather again by evening. Ripe fruit makes up the greater part of the diet, with leaves, seeds, termites, honey and the occasional hunted monkey alongside it. Every night an adult bends fresh branches high in a tree into a new sleeping nest. A youngster stays with its mother for years, riding on her back and learning by watching what the group around it does.
Did you know that chimpanzees keep regional customs? In some forests they fish for termites with a stripped twig, in others they crack nuts with a stone and a root anvil, and other groups do neither. A young chimpanzee needs several years at the anvil before it can strike a nut without smashing the kernel inside.
